Since the announcement of the 13th Parliamentary election results, the Human Rights and Culture Foundation (MSF) has reported incidents of violence in at least 26 districts across Bangladesh.
According to the NGO, these violent incidents have resulted in the deaths of 7 people and injuries to 350 others.
The organisation issued a press release on Monday, based on information published in the media three days after the election, expressing “strong condemnation and deep concern” over the violence.
MSF called on the state to take “prompt and effective” measures to stop such violence and urged political parties to take “responsible and urgent” action.
Regarding the fatalities, MSF stated that in Munshiganj, Jasim Uddin, and in Bagerhat, Osman Sardar were killed due to their support for independent candidates.
In Mymensingh, a child was allegedly beaten to death by their father after being accused of stealing betel nuts, as the child was a supporter of an independent candidate.
In Chapainawabganj, two people were killed in an explosion while making bombs.
Additionally, Abdur Rahim, a worker of the Awami League, was killed in Bhola, and in Lakshmipur, rickshaw driver Md. Sohag Mizi went missing on election night; his body was later recovered from an abandoned sandy field.
In Sirajganj Sadar, day laborer Abdul Motaleb Kazi was seriously injured by police gunfire shortly after voting and is receiving hospital treatment, according to MSF.
The press release stated that across multiple districts—including Bhola, Natore, Kushtia, Narail, Gazipur, Jessore, Barishal, Patuakhali, Netrokona, Comilla, Chandpur, Feni, Lakshmipur, Faridpur, Jhinaidah, Sherpur, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Bogura, Kurigram, Mymensingh, Panchagarh, Narsingdi, Lalmonirhat, and Keraniganj (Dhaka)—over 350 political activists, supporters, and ordinary citizens were injured during attacks.
The release also reported multiple instances of attacks and arson on political party offices, homes of party workers, and supporters. In Hatiya, Noakhali, a woman reportedly fell victim to sexual violence.
MSF warned that misleading information and videos circulating on social media regarding post-election violence risk further inflaming tensions.
