From Friday morning (6 March), motorcycle riders crowded various petrol pumps in Jamalpur town to buy fuel. However, since most of the pumps remained closed, many riders waited in line for hours but eventually returned without getting fuel.
It has been learned that after news spread about an attack on Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery, concerns grew among drivers that fuel shortages and price hikes might occur in the future. As a result, many people rushed to petrol pumps to collect more fuel than they actually needed.
At Rayhan Brothers Filling Station in the town, fuel was supplied in a limited quantity. Riders stood in a long line where each motorcycle was given two liters of fuel. The pump had around 700 liters of fuel in stock, which quickly ran out. As a result, many riders expressed anger after failing to get fuel.
On the other hand, at Messrs. Javed Filling Station, fuel worth 200 taka was being provided per motorcycle. Drivers also alleged that although several other petrol pumps in the town had fuel in stock, they were kept closed.
Drivers complained that the largest supply of fuel in Jamalpur usually comes through Jui Enterprise. However, the pump remained closed from Friday morning. Allegations were also made that despite having fuel in stock, Messrs. Khaja Petroleum Pump was not supplying it.
A banner at the pump states that fuel supply is prohibited without vehicles, but many riders claimed they still did not receive fuel even after arriving with their vehicles.
