Bangladesh Inflation Rises to 8.49% in December as Food Prices Surge

Bangladesh’s inflation rate continued to rise in December, fueled by a sharp increase in food prices and persistent cost pressures in non-food items.

According to data released on Monday by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), point-to-point inflation climbed to 8.49 percent in December, up from 8.29 percent in November and 8.17 percent in October.

The figures show that inflation increased by a total of 32 basis points over the past two months, further straining household budgets, especially for people with fixed or low incomes.

The latest data indicate that goods and services priced at Tk 100 a year earlier cost Tk 108.49 in December 2025.

Food prices were the primary driver of the increase, rising by 35 basis points, while inflation in the non-food sector edged up by five basis points, the BBS reported.
