Security has been intensified across Dhaka and other parts of the country as the verdict in the crimes against humanity case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—stemming from the July uprising—is set to be announced. The prohibited political party Awami League has called for a countrywide shutdown, prompting heightened concerns of sabotage. Dhaka District Police and other law enforcement agencies have moved into a strict security posture in response.

 

Checkposts Reinforced at Dhaka Entry Points

Police have set up additional checkpoints at major entry routes to Dhaka, including Aminbazar and Ashulia Bazar. Microbuses, private cars, and motorcycles entering the capital are being stopped and searched. Authorities say the measures aim to prevent possible sabotage amid a “highly volatile” political situation.

 

Army Deployed Around Tribunal and Supreme Court

Ahead of the verdict, army personnel have been stationed at the International Crimes Tribunal and the Supreme Court premises. Numerous soldiers were seen standing guard at the tribunal gate near the High Court Mazar area on Sunday morning.

Pedestrian Injured in New Eskaton Blast

Around 8:40 a.m. Sunday, a crude bomb exploded in front of the Waqf Building on New Eskaton Road, injuring a pedestrian, Abdul Basir (50). Initial assessment suggests the bomb may have been thrown from the flyover.

 

Two Bombs Explode Outside Adviser Rizwana Hasan’s Residence

At around 9 p.m. Sunday, two crude bombs detonated outside the Central Road residence of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Water Resources. No injuries were reported.

 

Karwan Bazar and Shyampur Hit by Attacks

Two crude bombs exploded under the Karwan Bazar Metro Station.
Around the same time, three bombs were thrown from the Shyampur flyover—two exploding in front of Bikrampur Plaza and one near Setu Market, causing panic among residents.

 

Explosions Near ADB Building and Airport Railway Station

On Saturday at 8:20 p.m., miscreants hurled a crude bomb outside the Asian Development Bank (ADB) building in Agargaon. Another explosion occurred near the Airport Railway Station around 11 p.m. Sunday.

 

Fire at Keraniganj Police Station Dumping Yard

At 10 p.m. Sunday, miscreants set fire to the South Keraniganj Police Station dumping yard, burning a lagoon vehicle.

 

Bus Torched in Chattogram’s Patenga

A parked passenger bus was set ablaze near the GM Gate area of Patenga. The bus was completely gutted, though no casualties were reported.

 

Land Office Signboard Burned in Chattogram

Masked assailants scaled the boundary wall of the Metropolitan Sadar Circle Land Office in Love Lane at dawn and set fire to its signboard.

 

Bus Burned Inside Jahangirnagar University

A bus parked in the university’s transport pool caught fire in the evening, burning its front section.

 

Arrests and Heightened Surveillance

RAB-2 arrested Ferdous alias Barek from Mohammadpur’s Basila area. Police claim he was planning sabotage linked to the shutdown. DMP reports heightened surveillance across key areas including New Market, Kalabagan, Tejgaon, Shyampur, and several metro stations.

 

Rising Political Tension Grips the Capital

The verdict in Sheikh Hasina’s case is scheduled for 17 November. Police assert that since 10 November, the spike in arson attacks and crude bomb explosions is directly linked to tensions surrounding the verdict. Authorities also indicated that online activities of Awami League supporters and affiliated groups have contributed to the volatile atmosphere.

 

Public Safety Concerns Intensify

A series of explosions and arson attacks has left residents across Dhaka alarmed.
 

Experts warn:

If such acts of violence continue, the pre-election environment could become a major challenge for the administration.

Analysts emphasize that identifying and dismantling sabotage networks swiftly is now the government’s top priority.
