A leading cultural organization in Bangladesh has expressed concern over the recent vandalism at the Chhayanaut Cultural Center in the capital city. Chhayanaut stated that such incidents are not merely acts of property damage, but also attacks on the long-standing cultural practices and free-thinking traditions of the Bengali people.
The organization noted that certain groups have long held negative positions regarding dance, music, and cultural activities, and the recent attack is seen as part of this ongoing pattern.
To protest these incidents and to stand in support of culture and free thought, Chhayanaut organized a “Solidarity through Song Rally.” The peaceful rally was held today at 4 p.m. in front of the Chhayanaut Cultural Center in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
During the event, artists associated with Chhayanaut performed multiple songs that celebrated Bengali culture, humanity, secular consciousness, and the power of protest. The organizers emphasized that the performances were a cultural form of resistance against violence and vandalism.
According to sources from the organization, songs performed at the rally included: Mora Jhônjhar Moto Uddam, O Bhai Khanti Sonar Cheye Khanti, Chol Chol Chol Urdhwo Gogone Baje Madal, O Amar Desher Mati, Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ase, Amar Mukti Aloy Aloy, Gramer Nowajan Hindu-Muslim, Manush Chhere Khappa Re Tui, Manush Ho Manush Ho Abar Tora Manush Ho, Tirhara Ei Dhouyer Sagor, Himaloy Theke Sundarban, and Amar Protiroder Bhasha, among several other timeless pieces. The rally concluded with a collective rendition of the national anthem.
Prior to the event, the organizers had invited all conscientious citizens to participate in this peaceful solidarity gathering. Chhayanaut emphasized that cultural spaces demand protection and care, and any act of vandalism in such places constitutes an attack on the broader social values and tolerance of the community.
