Allegation of 10 Percent Vote Rigging by Nahid

Nahid Islam, Convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), has alleged that there was clear manipulation of the results in the 13th National Parliament election.

On Friday night (13 February), after an emergency meeting of an 11-party alliance at the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in Moghbazar, he made these allegations.

Nahid said that there was clear manipulation of the election results. Many constituencies were targeted, and the results were forcibly altered by using the administration. He alleged that 10 percent of the votes were rigged at the last moment.

He also accused the party that won the election, saying that the plan they had heard about was now being implemented. Referring to the attacks that had taken place, he questioned how people could remain safe under this party.

Nahid said there were two sides in the election — one in favor of reforms, and the other seeking to restore the old arrangement.

At the briefing, Maulana Mamunul Haque, Ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, said they had welcomed the election with the expectation that Bangladesh would become stable. However, he warned that pushing the country toward instability would be unfortunate. He alleged that although voting appeared satisfactory up to a certain point, the counting process was conducted in reverse.

He further warned that if the spirit of the July Revolution was destroyed, they would not compromise. He said the people’s mandate had been disrespected and expressed hope that the people of Bangladesh would reclaim their rights.
