Bangladeshi Migrant Arrivals in Europe Rise Sharply in 2025

The number of Bangladesh nationals arriving in Europe by sea and land increased significantly in 2025, according to newly released migration data.

A total of 24,318 migrants from Bangladesh reached Europe during the year, marking a 59 percent increase compared with arrivals recorded in 2024. The figures highlight a sharp rise in migration flows as more Bangladeshis attempted to reach European countries through multiple routes.

Bangladeshi migrants were registered upon arrival across various migration pathways to Europe, though most traveled along the Eastern Mediterranean Route (EMR) and the Central Mediterranean Route (CMR). These routes remain among the most commonly used migration corridors connecting the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe.

Among the destination countries, the majority of Bangladeshi arrivals were recorded in Italy, which received 83 percent of the migrants. Another 16 percent arrived in Greece, while the remaining migrants around 1 percent reached Malta and Spain.

The data is based on Flow Monitoring Surveys conducted by the International Organization for Migration through its Displacement Tracking Matrix initiative. The surveys were carried out across several European locations including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Spain, and Kosovo.

Researchers compiled the findings using weighted data based on the number of arrivals recorded along each migration route, providing a clearer picture of migration patterns involving Bangladeshi nationals entering Europe.
