In Narail, allegations have been raised that Tanvir Filling Station manager Nahid Sardar (33) was run over and killed by a truck after he was unable to provide fuel to it. In the incident, an employee of the same filling station, Jihad Molla (27), was seriously injured. He has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The incident took place around 2:00 am on Saturday night near the Tularampur Rail Bridge on the Narail–Jessore road in Tularampur Union of Narail Sadar Upazila.
The deceased Nahid Sardar was the son of Akram Sardar of Peroli village in Tularampur Union of Sadar Upazila. The injured Jihad is the son of Johur Ali of Chamrul village in the same union.
Filling station employees Akher Ali and Israfil said that around 11:30 pm on Saturday, truck driver Sujat Molla from Peroli village came to Messrs Tanvir Filling and Gas Station, located beside the Narail–Jessore road in Tularampur, Narail Sadar Upazila, to take diesel for his truck. As there was no fuel at the filling station, manager Nahid Sardar expressed his inability to provide fuel. An argument ensued between truck driver Sujat and manager Nahid over not providing fuel. At one stage, truck driver Sujat threatened to run over the filling station manager with his truck.
Later, around 2:00 am, manager Nahid and employee Jihad were going to their village Peroli on a motorcycle. After traveling about 100 yards from the filling station, truck driver Sujat came from behind and ran over the motorcycle. As a result, manager Nahid Sardar died on the spot. Jihad Molla, who was critically injured, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After the incident, truck driver Sujat fled with the truck.
Officer-in-Charge of Tularampur Highway Police, Sekendar Ali, said, “The matter is being investigated and legal action is being taken. Strong efforts are underway to arrest the person involved in the incident.”
