Bangladesh ranks 13th among the world’s most corrupt countries. With a score of 24 out of 100, Bangladesh stands at 13th position among 182 countries. In terms of overall ranking, Bangladesh is placed 150th. Last year, Bangladesh was ranked 14th.
This information was revealed in the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) report published by the Berlin-based organization Transparency International (TI). Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) officially released the report on Tuesday morning at its office in Dhanmondi in the capital.
This year, Denmark tops the list of least corrupt countries with a score of 89. On the other hand, South Sudan and Somalia top the list of the most corrupt countries with a score of 9.
Among 182 countries, Bangladesh holds the 13th position with a score of 24 and ranks 150th in overall standing.
TIB believes that the one-point increase in Bangladesh’s score this year has been influenced by the immediate positive prospects for achieving democratic and accountable governance initiated in the aftermath of the July uprising. However, the subsequent realities of the state reform process were not reflected, as the relevant data sources were outside the assessment period.
TIB also stated that no country achieved a perfect score this year.
Globally, 80 percent of the world’s population lives in countries with high levels of corruption. Corruption is increasing worldwide. Even in countries that claim to uphold democracy, corruption is on the rise.
Therefore, TIB believes that due to the lack of progress in the state reform process, there has been no significant positive change in Bangladesh’s score and ranking in reality.
