Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has reported that 198 murders took place in Dhaka in the past 10 months of the current year, averaging nearly 20 homicides per month.
On Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, disclosed the information while speaking to journalists.
However, he claimed that police have solved the mystery behind most of these killings.
Speaking about the murder of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria in Pallabi, he said that police are conducting a “detailed investigation,” adding that one person has been detained so far.
“We have begun identifying others involved in the incident, including those who carried weapons. We hope to uncover the mystery and bring everyone involved under the law as soon as possible.”
He also stated that no case has yet been filed by the victim’s family regarding the murder.
Around 7 p.m. on Monday, three masked and helmet-wearing individuals entered a hardware store in C Block near Pallabi Old Police Station and shot Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria at point-blank range. Kibria was the Member Secretary of Jubo Dal’s Pallabi Thana unit.
Around 8 p.m., he was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital with gunshot wounds, where doctors declared him dead.
