The global energy crisis has created a situation like “a blow on top of a dying person,” commented Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. He said that it is not only energy; its impact is being felt on all kinds of goods, food items, and the entire supply chain. As a result, there is no doubt that commodity prices will increase in the coming days.
On Sunday (April 5), he made these remarks while speaking to journalists after the “National Multistakeholder Consultation Workshop” held at the Planning Ministry in Agargaon in the capital.
The minister said that the energy crisis is not a problem of any single country; rather, it is the impact of a global situation. Oil prices in the United States have doubled, and in Sri Lanka they have increased by nearly 25 percent. Prices have not yet been increased in Bangladesh, but how long that will be possible cannot be said right now.
The finance minister stated that, as an elected government, efforts are being made to reduce the burden on the people. However, at some point, it may become difficult for the government to bear this pressure. If the government fund continues to be affected in this way, the impact will ultimately fall on the people. Therefore, decisions will be made considering the reality of the situation.
