Moon Sighted in the Country, Fasting to Begin Thursday

The holy month of Ramadan will begin on Thursday as the moon has been sighted in the sky of Bangladesh.

The information was announced on Wednesday evening by Muhammad Nizam Uddin, Public Relations Officer of the Islamic Foundation, after a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram.

During the briefing of the Moon Sighting Committee, State Minister for Religious Affairs Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad said, “Fasting will begin from Thursday. Alhamdulillah.”

Muslims will offer Taraweeh prayers on Wednesday night. Later, in the last part of the night, they will have Sehri. After a month of fasting, they will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

In Saudi Arabia and many other Arab countries, fasting began on Wednesday. In Bangladesh, Ramadan and Eid are usually observed one day after Saudi Arabia. However, in Chandpur and several other areas, some people have started fasting in line with Saudi Arabia.

This year, Lailatul Qadr will be observed on the night of March 16.
