The 24th Edition of “Amar Bhashar Chalachitra 1432” Begins

Inspired by the glorious legacy of the Language Movement and a deep passion for Bengali cinema, the largest festival of Bangla films, “Amar Bhashar Chalachitra 1432,” is being organized by the Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS).

The 24th edition of the festival will run from Tuesday (3 February) to Sunday, 8 February, at the TSC premises of the University of Dhaka.

The inauguration ceremony of the festival was held on Tuesday at 5:00 PM at the field of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the University of Dhaka. Present at the inauguration ceremony was eminent writer, film critic, and pioneer of the film movement Moinuddin Khalid.

At the inauguration ceremony, Sumanta Sarkar Arpan, General Secretary of the Dhaka University Film Society, said that in today’s mechanical urban life, watching films together has become quite rare. For entertainment, there is now social media, and for watching films, there are OTT platforms. However, since cinema is a form of social art, people have always wanted to enjoy films collectively. We want to bring back the hall culture of Dhallywood cinema on this big screen at TSC.

Rehnuma Shahreen, President of the organization, said that “Amar Bhashar Chalachitra 1432” will take you very close to the roots of Bengali cinema. Here, recent political turbulence will speak on screen, while thrill and the essence of life will also be captured on the same screen. From today until 8 February, the TSC premises will resonate with the colorful melodies of Bengali film songs. In this familiar courtyard of ours, the stories of our language and existence will come alive once again. We have kept the ticket price for each screening at only 50 taka, so that students, teachers, and the general public everyone can be part of this festival.
