Nasiruddin Patwary, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said, “BNP’s list of candidates is disappointing. Most of them are godfathers. We had hoped that after the mass uprising, they would nominate some good candidates. But it appears that, strategically, the young leaders from Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal have been excluded. They are welcome to join our party.”
He made these remarks while briefing journalists on the current political situation at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, on Monday (November 3) evening.
Nasiruddin Patwary said, “I am happy to hear that Tarique is coming back to the country. He should have come earlier. We want to sit together. We also congratulate BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for contesting in three constituencies.”
Referring to Khaleda Zia as a symbol of democracy, he said, “Now, in BNP’s democracy, she is the only person who represents it. Without the mass uprising, she might not have had the opportunity to participate in the election. Therefore, the July uprising should be recognized.”
He further said, “The order to implement the July Charter must be given to Dr. Muhammad Yunus. There is no scope for the President’s signature here. If such an attempt is made, the student community will once again take to the streets. A specific date must be announced for the implementation order of the Charter.”
The NCP Chief Coordinator said, “By offering one or two constituencies, major parties are trying to undermine the identity of smaller parties. We believe every party should be allowed to contest the election with its own symbol. If any major party sells election symbols to smaller ones, we urge people not to vote for them.”
He added, “We are not afraid of BNP or Jamaat. We stand for the people. BNP and Jamaat are competing to secure different privileges. The government must make these two parties understand this.”
