Former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury Arrested in Lalbagh Attempted Murder and Vandalism Case

Former Speaker of the National Parliament, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, has been shown arrested in a case filed over attempted murder and vandalism during the anti-discrimination movement in Lalbagh, the capital. She was detained at around 4:30 AM on Tuesday from a residence on Road 8/A in Dhanmondi.

 

Additional Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB), Md. Shafiqul Islam, said that she has been shown arrested in a case filed at Lalbagh Police Station under the DMP over attempted murder and vandalism during the anti-discrimination movement.

 

A DB source said that Shirin Sharmin had been in hiding at various locations. Most recently, she was staying at the Dhanmondi residence of a relative named Masud Uddin. She was detained from there early Tuesday morning.

 

The DB Additional Commissioner said that information has been found about six cases against Shirin Sharmin, including a murder case that occurred during the mass uprising. Among these, final reports have been submitted in three cases, while the remaining three are under investigation. Preparations are underway to present her before the court.
