Human Rights Abuses Continue Unabated Under Bangladesh’s Interim Government
The collapse of the Awami League government in August 2024 marked a decisive turning point in Bangladesh’s contemporary political landscape. A nationwide uprising—fueled by frustration over inequality, corruption, and the abuse of state power—swept the long-standing regime from office and ushered in an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Expectations soared that this transition would usher in a new era of transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights.
British MP Tulip Siddiq sentenced to 2 years in prison
British Labour Party MP Tulip Siddiq has been sentenced to two years in prison by Dhaka’s Fourth Special Judge Court in the much-discussed Purbachal “plot corruption” case in Bangladesh. In the verdict delivered on Monday by Judge Robiul Alam, Tulip’s mother Sheikh Rehana was sentenced to seven years in prison for “corruption” involving the allocation of a 10-katha plot, and her aunt, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment. Other accused in the same case were also sentenced to five years each.

Maharaja Krishna Rasgotra, who is better known as M.K. Rasgotra, is a living legend of the Foreign Service of independent India. From India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to his daughter Indira and grandson Rajiv Gandhi – Krishna Rasgotra worked as a close associate to all of them. In 1985 he retired as India’s Foreign Secretary.

Govt secondary teachers go on strike, annual exams halted
Teachers of government secondary schools are going on a full-day work stoppage from tomorrow, Monday (1 December 2025), with a four-point demand including bringing the entry-level position of Assistant Teacher under the BCS cadre. As part of the work stoppage, they will also suspend the ongoing annual examinations. The annual exams started on 24 November.
Two people shot dead in front of the court in Khulna
Two young men were hacked and shot dead on the road in front of the main gate of the Khulna District and Sessions Judge Court premises by miscreants. The incident took place around 12:30 pm on Sunday (30 November).
