AIPP firmly denounces the brutal attacks on Indigenous communities in Khagrachari
The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) has strongly condemned the recent outbreak of brutal violence targeting Indigenous communities in the Khagrachari Hill District of Bangladesh. The violence resulted in the deaths of at least three Indigenous individuals, left dozens injured, and led to the destruction of Indigenous property — including the burning of at least 26 homes and 54 shops.
International Rights Groups Condemn Surge in Violence Against Indigenous Peoples in CHT
Three leading human rights organizations—FIAN International, the International Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission (CHT Commission), the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), and Minority Rights Group International (MRG)—have issued a forceful condemnation of recent lethal attacks targeting the Indigenous peoples of the the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). According to their joint press release, the violence, perpetrated by state security forces and Bengali settlers, represents a continuing pattern of systemic oppression, including the use of sexual violence as an instrument of terror and control.
One Year Since Rangamati Communal Attack and Anik Chakma Murder: Justice Still Denied
Today marks one year since the communal attack carried out by Bengali settlers on Jumma students and youth in Rangamati town, followed by the brutal murder of 18-year-old Anik Chakma. Despite multiple cases being filed, justice remains elusive as most of the accused are free on bail and the majority of perpetrators remain untouched.
