Joint Declaration Passed Despite Trump’s Boycott, China’s Prominent Presence Noted
One of the world’s most important economic alliances, the G-20 Summit, has been held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The two-day (22–23 November) summit was boycotted by U.S. President Donald Trump. Even so, the leaders issued the “Johannesburg Declaration.” The major reason behind Trump’s absence was South Africa.
Bangladesh Trade Unions Demand Worker Participation in Climate Policy and COP30 Agenda
Trade unions in Bangladesh have called for the inclusion of workers in all stages of climate policymaking as the country prepares for COP30. The unions, organised under the National Alliance for Just Transition Bangladesh (NAJTB), presented a 10‑point charter demanding worker representation from policy formulation through to implementation and monitoring.
Recovery of Seized Forest Land Remains Disappointingly Low
In response to a persistently low success rate in reclaiming encroached forest land, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has finally taken steps to amend existing laws. The proposed legal changes would authorize the forest department to directly evict illegal occupants from its land.
