UK universities are shutting their doors to students from Bangladesh and Pakistan
The Financial Times reported on Thursday (4 December) that concerns over visa misuse and strict rules from the Home Office have led UK universities to effectively shut their doors to applicants from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Govt secondary teachers go on strike, annual exams halted
Teachers of government secondary schools are going on a full-day work stoppage from tomorrow, Monday (1 December 2025), with a four-point demand including bringing the entry-level position of Assistant Teacher under the BCS cadre. As part of the work stoppage, they will also suspend the ongoing annual examinations. The annual exams started on 24 November.
Three-Day Teachers’ Work Stoppage Cripples Academic Activities at Seven Govt Colleges
Academic activities at the seven government colleges in the capital have remained completely stalled due to a continuous three-day teachers’ work stoppage. Today (Thursday) marks the third day of the strike, followed by two days of weekly holidays, resulting in a total shutdown of classes, examinations, and official activities for five consecutive days. There is growing concern that teachers may announce fresh programs or extend the strike starting next Sunday.
Lowest HSC Pass Rate Leaves 1.1 Million Vacant Seats in Higher Education
Because the pass rate in the HSC examination is the lowest in the past 21 years and nearly 1.1 million seats will remain vacant in higher education for the 2025-26 academic year despite all students getting admitted to undergraduate programmes. It is found that without proper planning the number of seats in higher education has doubled over the past decade.

The number of English and mathematics teachers at secondary-level educational institutions in Bangladesh has declined over the past 13 years, despite students’ consistently poor performance in these two core subjects in public examinations.
Bangladesh Sees Worst Higher Secondary Results Since 2004
Bangladesh has recorded its worst Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exam results since 2004. In this year's HSC and equivalent exams, 58.83 percent of students have passed.
