Shortage of Bottled Soybean Oil Triggers Market Instability
As soon as the month of Ramadan begins, a tendency for the prices of essential commodities to rise is usually seen in the country. This time has been no exception. Over the past week, complaints have emerged about a decline in the supply of bottled soybean oil in the market, creating concern among consumers and retail traders.
Fuel Oil Prices Rise, Surpass $100 Per Barrel
Global fuel oil prices have increased by about 20 percent in the world market, reaching the highest level since July 2022. The main reason behind this is the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel, which has further tightened the supply system and created concerns about prolonged disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Soybean Oil Price Rises by 9 Taka per Liter Without Announcement; Loose Oil Up by 5 Taka
Without any prior announcement, importers and marketing companies have quietly increased the retail price of soybean oil. This time, the price has been raised by 9 taka per liter in one jump. This has put consumers in difficulty. Consumer-rights groups say that raising prices in such a deceptive manner without prior notice is extremely unjust. They say the relevant government authorities should investigate the matter.
Despite Strong Profits, BPC Hikes Fuel Prices While Global Oil Rates Decline
Fuel prices in the international market are gradually declining. Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has been making profits for several years. In the 2024–25 fiscal year, after deducting all expenses, BPC made a net profit of Tk 4,316 crore. In this situation, questions have been raised over the decision to increase fuel prices instead of adjusting and reducing them.
Fuel prices raised by Tk 2 per liter
Under the automatic price adjustment system in the country, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has increased the prices of all types of fuel oil by 2 taka per liter for the month of December 2025.
Soybean Oil Price Increased Five Times in 13 Months
The prices of edible oils, including bottled soybean oil, have been raised once again by refiners, even though the Ministry of Commerce has not yet given its final approval. The announcement came through a press release issued by the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association on Monday.
